If you’ve been thinking of upgrading your pickup, keep reading to learn about the 2026 Toyota Tacoma updates and what you can expect when you drive one.
2026 Toyota Tacoma Updates Overview
The 2026 Tacoma doesn’t have too many updates, though there are some notable new features and colors:
- New Tacoma colors include Heritage Blue and Wave Maker (Tacoma TRD Pro only)
- The Tacoma SR XtraCab models come standard with a tow hitch
- A Wireless Digital Key and Card Key are available on more trims
- Some trims come with 18” wheels and 32-33” tires
- A black logo is now on the front of the Tacoma TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, and Pre-Runner.

Beyond that, the Tacoma rolls into the new model year mostly unchanged. You know what they say—if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
2026 Toyota Tacoma Specs

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma ships with a 2.4L turbo I-4 engine with either an eight-speed auto transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. The base Tacoma SR trim is tuned for 228 horsepower, but all Tacoma trims above get the i-FORCE version of the engine, upping the horsepower to 278 and 317 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard on most trims, though part-time four-wheel drive and full-time four-wheel drive are available.
The 2026 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid comes equipped with the more powerfully tuned i-FORCE MAX engine paired with an electric motor. This provides 326 horsepower and a whopping 465 pound-feet of torque. You’ll mostly find 4WD on the Tacoma Hybrids as well as the eight-speed automatic transmission.
For the 2026 Toyota Tacoma towing specs, the gas models can tow up to 6,500 pounds, while the hybrids can tow up to 6,000 lbs. The gas models have a max payload of 1,705 lbs., and the Hybrid can haul up to 1,710 lbs.
2026 Toyota Tacoma MPG
- Gas-powered Tacoma MPG (RWD): 21 city, 26 highway, 23 combined
- Gas-powered Tacoma MPG (4WD): 19 city, 24 highway, 21 combined
- Hybrid Tacoma MPG: 22 city, 24 highway, 23 combined
The Tacoma gets solid fuel efficiency, especially for a powerful mid-sized pickup truck. If fuel efficiency is a big selling point, the Hybrid returns the best city and combined numbers.
